IPL 2024 will witness a new rule which will benefit pacers and seamers. IPL 2024 will allow two bouncers in an over. The rule will benefit pace bowlers and add more entertainment to the nail-biting encounters.

IPL 2024 is expected to take place from March to May next year. BCCI will finalize the dates for the tournament after taking note of the schedule of general elections next year. On earlier occasions, the tournament was shifted out of India during general elections. However, BCCI has planned to conduct the tournament inside the country in 2024.

IPL 2024: New Rule Trialled In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Allowing two bouncers in an over was recently tested by the Indian Cricket Board during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24. The addition of this new rule was quite successful in the domestic T20I tournament and BCCI has agreed to add this rule in IPL 2024 next year.

Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat has welcomed the decision and said that it will have a huge impact on bowlers in IPL 2024. Unadkad was part of Lucknow Super Giants last year but has been released by the franchise. The left-arm seamer is part of the auction at his Rs. price of Rs. 50 lakh.

“I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it’s one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batsmen. Because, for example, if I bowl a slower bouncer… the batsman in the previous case is sure that there’s no more bouncer coming”, Unadkat said.

“In this case, even if you bowl one slower bouncer in the first half of the over, you can still use one more. Someone who is weak against bouncers will have to be better at it and then it will give the bowler one more weapon in their armoury. So, I feel it’s a very small change with a huge impact and as a bowler I feel it’s very important to have that rule,” he further added.

Impact Player Rule Was Added In Last Season

Last season, the impact player rule was added to the Indian Premier League. Under the rule, teams can replace one of the players in the 2nd inning of the match. Teams can name four substitutes at the toss whom they can later replace in the playing XI. However, some cricket experts feel that the rule limited the value of all-rounders in the team.

In the preceding season, IPL introduced the rule to review wide and no balls. Earlier, teams were only allowed to review on-field umpire’s decision for dismissals. However, now they can also review wide and no-balls.

333 Players To Be Part of IPL 2024 Auction

Meanwhile, the preparations for IPL 2024 are on with the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. The mini-auction takes place on Tuesday, December 19 in Dubai. A total of 333 players are set to undergo the auction.

Gujarat Titans have a maximum budget of Rs. 38+ crore, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad with Rs. 34 crore. Lucknow Super Giants have the lowest budget of Rs. 13+ crore. Mumbai Indians (17+ cr) and Rajasthan Royals (14+ cr) are the other teams with the lowest budgets.
