Aakash Chopra claims Shreyas Iyer lied about KKR's communication
Recently, Shreyas Iyer has opened up about his much talked about and controversial separation from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of last year’s IPL 2025 mega auction. The Indian batter led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title last year, but then things didn’t work out, and they decided to part ways, and he went to the mega auction.
The Kolkata franchise decided to retain Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy, along with Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh, while leaving out Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming IPL 2025. Later, Shreyas became the second costliest player in IPL history after Punjab Kings (PBKS) snapped him up for INR 26.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Now, the Indian batter is all set to captain Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the upcoming IPL. Well, Shreyas Iyer recently made some bold allegations against the KKR team. He claimed that a ‘lack of communication’ from the Kolkata Knight Riders led to the fallout between them, and eventually, they separated. He said that nobody told him properly about the retention.
There was no concrete effort in having a retention talk: Shreyas Iyer
Iyer was quoted as saying by The Indian Express: “We had a conversation straight after the IPL championship. But for a few months, there was a layover and no concrete effort in having a retention talk. So, because of a lack of communication, we came to a situation where we parted ways mutually."
Reacting to Iyer's statement, Aakash Chopra asserted that despite numerous discussions between the now-PBKS skipper and the KKR team management, they were unable to reach an agreement, but mostly because of Shreyas.

The commentator also revealed that Iyer himself had certain reservations about potential outcomes, which hinted that the batter is making false accusations against KKR to protect his own image from getting tarnished.
I can confirm that Iyer and Kolkata Knight Riders did talk: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “Shreyas Iyer was the captain. So, he should have been in the original scheme of things. But he said that they didn't even talk to him. But I can confirm that they did talk. It was a very good talk. And it was a long talk. And it happened many times. And there was no agreement in that. And the bone of contention that usually exists.”
Chopra signed off by saying, “I'm not going to spell it out. Shreyas had some apprehension, like if I end up somewhere, what will happen and what won't. But I can confirm that they had a conversation. But Shreyas is saying that it didn't happen. So, there is definitely some discrepancy between the two. Who told me? I have my sources as well. I am telling you. It did happen.”
