Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal provided a hint about the retentions for the franchises ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. He confirmed that Rishabh Pant will be their first retention, and they will be discussing about other players as well.
The management of the franchises will be back on the drawing board. This is because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the retention policy ahead of the auction, and each team has the option of retaining 6 players, including the RTM.
It will be a major headache for all the franchises, especially with big names in almost every team. Delhi Capitals also will be among the franchises who will be having retention dilemmas, as well as they have quite a few big Indian as well as overseas players in the ranks.
Delhi Capitals have likes of Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and others. To retain six among them will be a massive headache for the team management as they would be keen to keep the best 6 of the lot.
Parth Jindal, who is Delhi Capitals co-owner, said that they have quality players in the ranks. He mentioned that they have to discuss with the GMR Group, who is another co-owner, Director of cricket Sourav Ganguly before confirming Rishabh Pant's retention. Speaking to IANS, he explained:
"Yes, we have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained."
Rishabh Pant has been an integral part of the franchise for the last few seasons. The keeper-batter has been captaining the franchise in the league for the last few seasons. He has been leading the team from the front and would be keen to end the title drought for the team in the next edition of the Indian Premier League

Parth Jindal further talked about the possible Delhi Capitals pick. He named Axar Patel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, hinting at retentions. He also mentioned that they will be discussing soon. He explained:
"We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team. We'll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens..."
Delhi Capitals are among the 3 original teams in the tournament who haven't won the Indian Premier League title yet. They reached the final of the tournament in 2020 before losing to Mumbai Indians. This time around they would be hoping to build a squad that would help them win the title.
