Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma's future with the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the IPL 2025 season.

Aakash Chopra stated that Rohit Sharma might be released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction.

Speculations have arisen about Rohit Sharma leaving the Mumbai Indians after Hardik Pandya was appointed captain.

Rohit was captain of MI during five winning campaigns in the IPL. The veteran opening batter captained the Mumbai-based team from 2013 to 2023 in the cash-rich league.

Don't Think Rohit Sharma Is Going To Be Retained Here - Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Rohit Sharma might leave himself or MI might leave him. Chopra highlighted that MS Dhoni is a different case as he has a long-term relationship with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

"Will he stay or will he go? It's a big question. Personally, I feel he will not stay. Whoever is retained will be with the thinking that he will remain with you for three years, unless your name is MS Dhoni," Chopra said.

"MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings' story is very different but Rohit Sharma at MI, I feel he might himself leave or MI might leave him," he added.

"Anything can happen but I don't think Rohit is going to be retained here. I don't have any information but I feel Rohit will probably be released. He might go to someone in the trade window, that's a possibility that he doesn't go to the auction, but if that doesn't happen, he might be seen in the auction. I feel his journey with the Mumbai Indians is over."

The Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans and appointed him as their captain for the IPL 2024 season. However, the team had a poor season and failed to advance to the knockout stages. Rumors are suggesting that Rohit Sharma might not return to MI for IPL 2025.

Suryakumar Yadav Is Not Going Anywhere - Aakash Chopra

During the same video, Aakash Chopra said that the Mumbai Indians won’t release Suryakumar Yadav, adding that he hasn’t heard any such rumors. Chopra also added that Yadav is expected to stay with the Mumbai team for the next season.

"What are you asking? I don't think Suryakumar Yadav will be traded. I haven't heard anything like that. The Mumbai Indians won't leave Suryakumar Yadav and I feel Surya also won't leave either. Surya will be there. He is not going anywhere."

Suryakumar Yadav has been named India's T20I captain after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement following the T20 World Cup 2024 win.

It’s uncertain whether Suryakumar will want to stay with the Mumbai Indians if Hardik Pandya remains as the captain of the five-time IPL champions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce the rules for player retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is expected to take place later this year. As per reports, the BCCI is likely to allow franchises to retain four to six players ahead of the auction.
