Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials have received a notice from the Delhi Police Crime Branch regarding the alleged black marketing of IPL match passes and premium tickets. The Crime Branch serves notice to the Cricket Association to join the prob.
Selling IPL tickets and passes illegally has become one of the major concerns in the ongoing season. The allegations of black marketing have led to several denials and a police investigation. Through the investigation, the police have come to know that there is an active racket behind the IPL ticket black market.
Notice has been issued to three DDCA officials amid IPL 2026
“The Delhi Police Crime Branch has issued legal notices to three officials, including DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma, in connection with the black marketing of complimentary passes and tickets for the franchise league matches. DDCA CEO RR Singh and his personal assistant Rakesh Singh have been asked to join the investigation on Thursday,” according to a Dainik Jagran report.
“They have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch office in Shakarpur at 10 a.m. at any cost. Both will be questioned extensively there. They will be questioned separately and then together face-to-face. A general notice has been sent to DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma,” the claim continued.
Delhi police caught several during the investigation
A few days ago, Delhi Police arrested four persons from outside the Arun Jaitley Stadium for allegedly selling complimentary IPL match passes and premium tickets. Further investigations reveal that the black market of tickets was run by a syndicate.
Persons who are alleged to have sold tickets illegally used to present themselves as corporations to gain the trust of general visitors. The event supplied premium-priced range tickets at a higher price. The entire process might have run via live betting or satta operations inside stadiums, or even through pickpockets and other offensive activities.
DCP (Crime Branch) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav further informed that the accused were involved in black marketing IPL tickets across India and travelled by air to different cities where IPL matches were held.
“They allegedly procured tickets and complimentary passes through various persons. The role of others associated with this syndicate is also under investigation. They also supplied premium tickets at exorbitant prices to people involved in online live betting/satta operations inside stadiums, as well as to pickpockets and other criminal elements,” Yadav told the Indian Express in his brief.
“To gain credibility and lure cricket enthusiasts, the accused falsely projected themselves as authorised representatives of the cricket administration and event management authorities. They are currently in police remand, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the procurement and illegal sale of tickets,” Yadav further added.
Previous registered cases also under scrutiny
He informed that these kinds of criminal activities and cases related to ticket black marketing had previously been registered against the accused in multiple states, including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. Even during an auto expo event, they were accused of a ticket black market.
"It has also come to notice that criminal cases related to ticket black marketing had previously been registered against them in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. One case of ticket black marketing during the Auto Expo in Faridabad was also registered against them,” DCP Yadav added.
