IPL Auction 2026

The buzz around the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is getting louder as franchises prepare for the much-anticipated mini-auction. Unlike the previous editions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct the 2026 IPL mini auction in India.

Additionally, the BCCI is planning a shorter, more focused auction, which is likely to take place between December 13 and 15. However, the final date is yet to be confirmed, but the teams have already begun making their strategies ahead of the November 15 retention deadline.

All eyes on Cameron Green as IPL 2026 Mini-Auction window confirmed

Adding extra spice to the auction drama, Australia’s star all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to be one of the hottest names under the hammer. After missing the previous auction due to injury, Green is all set to spark major interest across the ten franchises.

The 26-year-old all-rounder, who is known for his explosive batting and handy bowling, has already represented the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL.

Green turned heads with his limited opportunities in the world’s biggest T20I league, and now he could attract an intense bidding war at the 2026 IPL mini auction later this year.

Cameron Green could smash IPL Auction records

A Cricbuzz report suggested that Cameron Green, who already represents Australia across the formats, is likely to end up as one of the most expensive players in IPL auction history.

Notably, Green has so far played 29 IPL games and scored 707 runs with the help of one century and two fifties. The fast bowler has also taken 16 wickets in the IPL so far. Additionally, the Australian all-rounder has 2868 runs in 84 international games so far to his name.

Green has notched up three hundreds and 15 fifties for Australia across the formats at the highest level. The star all-rounder is currently gearing up for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, starting on October 19 in Perth.

Pat Cummins and Travis Head reject ₹58 crore offers from IPL group to quit international cricket

Meanwhile, Cameron Green’s Australian teammates Pat Cummins and Travis Head have reportedly turned down jaw-dropping offers worth nearly AUD 10 million (around ₹58 crore) each to quit international cricket and play full-time in global T20 leagues for an IPL-based franchise.

As reported by The Age, the massive offer was made earlier this year and aimed to lure the Australian captain and his deputy into becoming full-time franchise players, giving up their national contracts.

However, both Cummins and Head chose to stay loyal to Australian cricket, despite the temptation of a salary almost six times higher than what they currently earn from Cricket Australia.

BBL privatization talks intensify after massive IPL offer exposed

The revelation was made during internal discussions within Cricket Australia about possibly allowing private investment in the Big Bash League (BBL). Some officials reportedly cited the Cummins-Head case as a wake-up call, highlighting how T20 leagues are rapidly changing the game’s financial balance.

Currently, an average Australian player earns around AUD 1.5 million (₹8 crore) from their central contract, which looks light compared to the lucrative offers being made by global franchises. The incident has sparked intense debate in Australian cricket about how long top players will continue to resist the pull of big money.
