Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would have got INR 25 crores had they put their names in the IPL 2025 auction. Chopra lauded Mumbai Indians for their superb retention in which they were able to retain all their four big Indian players.

Mumbai Indians retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma ahead of the auctions. Bumrah was retained for INR 18 crore, Pandya and Suryakumar for 16.35 crore, Rohit for 16.30 crore, and Tilak Varma for INR 8 crore.

All these players have played extremely important roles for the franchise over the years. While the first four players are experienced cricketers and have been involved in various title wins, Tilak Varma is the future of Mumbai Indians.

Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would have got INR 25 crores - Aakash Chopra

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra claimed that Mumbai Indians did an outstanding job by convincing their players to be retained ahead of the auction. He claimed that players like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would have got INR 25 crores had they put their names in the auction.

"What they have managed is an absolutely outstanding thing because Jasprit Bumrah would have taken 25 crores had he gone into the auction. If he had told any franchise that he wanted 25 crores, anyone would have given him 25 crores, and I am pretty sure the other franchises would have approached him as well," Chopra opined.

Jasprit Bumrah is arguably the best bowler in the IPL over the last few years. The fast bowler is a genuine wicket-taker and is an exceptional death bowler as well. Bumrah's stocks have risen over the last few years and he has got better with every season.

"There is no ego" - Aakash Chopra on Suryakumar Yadav

Chopra also lauded Suryakumar Yadav for showing no ego despite knowing that he is not the captain of the team. Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of Mumbai Indians last season, has been retained for the upcoming season as well.

"They would have approached him and Suryakumar Yadav as well because he is not even the captain. Hardik (Pandya) is the captain and Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the Indian T20I team," Chopra noted.

"So, there is no ego. He is ready to play for this franchise and for 16.35 crores. He too would have got 25 crores if he had said he wanted to go to the auction and some other team's captaincy as well," he added.

Suryakumar Yadav - A potential captaincy candidate

Alongside being a devastating T20 batter, Suryakumar is a potential captaincy candidate as well. He is also India's T20I captain currently but MI showed its faith in Hardik to lead the team again.

Mumbai Indians have already spent INR 75 crores after retaining all these five players. They have INR 45 crores left for the IPL 2025 auction. The five-time IPL champions had one of their worst seasons in IPL 2024 and will be looking to make a comeback this time.
