In a notable development, the Gujarat Titans appointed a new assistant and batting coach ahead of the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auction. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel will be part of the Gujarat Titans coaching staff for the Indian Premier League 2025 season.

Parthiv Patel has experience in coaching and talent scouting. The former cricketer worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise for three seasons. He also served as the batting coach for Mumbai Emirates in 2023. Patel represented India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and two T20Is in his career.

On Wednesday, November 13, the Gujarat Titans announced Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach. The franchise is excited about his appointment, adding that the valuable experience he brings will be helpful for the team.

"The Gujarat Titans are pleased to announce the appointment of Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach. With a distinguished 17-year career as a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team," the franchise said in a statement.

"As the Titans prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Parthiv's insights into batting techniques and strategies will play a crucial role in enhancing the players' skills.

"Parthiv, who is known for his sharp cricketing acumen and ability to mentor young talent, will strengthen the coaching staff and contribute to player development and performance," GT added in the statement.

Parthiv Patel replaces Gary Kirsten as the batting coach and mentor for the Gujarat Titans. Kirsten left the IPL franchise to take on the role of head coach for Pakistan's white-ball team. Vikram Solanki remains with the Gujarat Titans as their Director of Cricket.

Patel also played for several IPL teams throughout his career, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He was picked by CSK as a pure batter and later won titles with both Chennai and Mumbai. Patel last played in the IPL with the Royal Challengers in 2018.

Rashid Khan Retained as Gujarat Titans' First Retention for IPL 2025

The Ahmedabad-based franchise retained Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan as their top pick for Rs 18 crores. They also kept skipper Shubman Gill at 16.5 crores and Sai Sudharsan for Rs 8.5 crores. Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia were also retained for Rs 4 crores each as uncapped players.

The IPL mega auction is set to take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Gujarat Titans will be hoping to build a strong squad with their acquisitions in the upcoming auction. Shubman Gill will lead the team in IPL 2025. He failed to guide the team to the playoffs in the most recent season.
