IPL Franchises Looking To Invest In CSA's New Franchise T20 League - Reports
The auction for Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) upcoming T20 league was reportedly dominated by the franchises from the Indian Premier League (IPL), as per Cricbuzz.
The bidding took place on July 13, Wednesday, with 29 Expressions of Interest (EoIs). Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Ambani of Mumbai Indians, the Marans of Sunrisers Hyderabad, N Srinivasan of Chennai Super Kings, Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants, and Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals have pocketed six franchises, as per the report.
The teams have been asked to confirm their choices of cities to set up their bases on. Although CSA will announce the winners of the bids, the IPL teams have already decided where they want to set up shop.
While CSK has an eye on Johannesburg, its long-time rival MI is looking to secure Cape Town. Similar to Delhi Capitals, Jindal and co. are looking to pocket Pretoria and name it Pretoria Capitals.
Rajasthan has its eyes set on Paarl, Hyderabad is highly interested in Port Elizabeth and Durban is where Goenka’s company wants to settle.
CSA’s T20 league has been tentatively scheduled for January – February 2023. Since the schedule is likely to clash with UAE’s new league, players have to choose between playing for CSA’s or UAE’s league.
So far, Jos Buttler, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, and Liam Livingstone are expected to play in South Africa while the likes of Moeen Ali and several other Englishmen and West Indians are heading to the UAE.
