The media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cycle from 2023 to 2027 for the Indian subcontinent have gone to Disney Star Sports, as per a report in the Times of India.

The e-auction that is ongoing in Mumbai saw many parties interested, with Disney pocketing the rights in the Indian subcontinent for INR 23,575 crores. Additionally, Viacom18 has also burned INR 20,500 crores for digital rights in India.

The total media rights value has been sold for INR 44,075 crores for 410 matches. Package A of TV, pocketed by Disney, went for 57.5 crores per match while Package B of digital rights went for INR 50 crores per match.

The bidding war for Package C and D didn’t conclude on Day 2 and they will now continue on Tuesday at 11 am. Currently, the amount for Package C stands at INR 18.5 crore per game.

Package C is the most important one for the organizations as it’s expected to generate huge amounts of revenue via advertisements and subscriptions for the 18 games it holds.

These 18 matches include the opening game along with the ceremony, the grand final, and the three playoffs. They also have most of the double-headers that will be held on weekends and those are expected to generate massive interest.

Star Sports had the current rights for the media cycle from 2017 to 2022 having bid INR 16347.50 crore for both TV and digital back in September 2017.
