Ishan Kishan was once again snubbed from India's T20I and ODI squads which were announced on Thursday. Gautam Gambhir outlined his approach and the BCCI selection committee seems to be already following it.

Soon after taking over, he recalled the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer into the white-ball side. Shubman Gil was named as the vice-captain for both sides. Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were dropped despite playing in the last series against Zimbabwe.

Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Samson are the only three keeper-batters who are likely to be rotated in the Indian white-ball sides as of now. Kishan last played for India in the T20I series against Australia after the ODI World Cup. After his decision to return from the tour of South Africa, Kishan has badly fallen out of favour. He was also dropped out of the BCCI central contract as well.

Now after his recent snub, he has just one way through which he can make his comeback into the India white-ball sides. BCCI was unhappy after he came back from South Africa and did not play any domestic cricket thereafter. As a result, he lost out on his central contract as well.

Playing Domestic Cricket Only Way For Ishan Kishan's Comeback

He can now get back his place in the Indian side only if he plays a full season of domestic cricket as per reports in PTI. Previously BCCI said that they "will continue to monitor player availability and participation in the upcoming domestic cricket season, 2024-25.".

Kishan has not played any kind of competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup last year, He has not been involved seriously in domestic cricket apart from playing between two IPL seasons where his performance has not been great either. Domestic cricket has always been given benchmark for performances but Kishan has not taken BCCI's advice seriously.

Shreyas Iyer regained his place back in the ODI side after performing consistently in domestic cricket. Riyan Parag's performance in domestic cricket was the reason why he earned his maiden ODI call-up. He scored seven fifties in his last Vijay Hazare Trophy season for Assam.

It has been learnt that the national selection committee will give full importance to domestic cricket performances. This has worked in favour of Harshit Rana's selection in India's ODI squad as India are looking to widen their pool of domestic fast bowlers.

Not playing domestic cricket is exactly the reason why someone like Umran Malik despite his raw pace has lost his place in the side. Kishan has not taken BCCI's suggestions seriously and is paying the price. Given that the BCCI is keen on rotating between Pant, Rahul and Samson as keepers with the two white-ball formats, a comeback for Kishan is not so soon on the cards.

India's tour to Sri Lanka begins on July 26 with the three T20Is scheduled in Pallekele. Colombo will host the three ODIs on August 2, 4 and 7. Suryakumar Yadav was named the new T20I skipper while Rohit Sharma was retained as the ODI skipper. Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad who performed in the recent series against Sri Lanka have both been axed from the T20I squads.
