Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan shared a 112-run stand for the third wicket as the duo set a good platform for India’s highest T20I run chase in the first T20I against Australia. The Men in Blue beat the Aussies by two wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The win was special as it came on the back of the loss of India in the ICC World Cup final against Australia just a few nights ago in Ahmedabad. SKY who was handed the leadership responsibilities for this series with the senior players rested found himself in the thick of things as captain.
The SKY-Kishan partnership culminated with an Indian win with Rinku Singh clinically finishing the game scoring 22 off 14 balls hitting a six off the final ball to win the match for India. The cricket fans and experts see in him a new finisher for India in T20Is.
The BCCI Twitter handle after the game posted a short video of SKY reliving his first game for India as captain. Surya and a few interesting questions were thrown at him and spoke specifically on Kishan’s role in the partnership. Yadav scored 80 off 42 balls while the southpaw scored 58 off 39 balls. Their effort with the bat overshadowed Jos Inglis’s maiden T20I ton for Australia.

“I think he helped me really well. For me to be fearless, him staying there and his knock was very important” said SKY in the video.
Surya described his knock against the Aussies as fearless and walked the talk regarding playing fearless cricket that he asked his teammates ahead of the match.
The right-hander scored 18 off 28 balls in the ICC World Cup 2023 final and struggled batting at number seven. However, he was at his fluent best in the T20I format increasingly showing reasons why he should only play T20 cricket for India.
The men in Blue next take on the Aussies in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, November 27.
