It Was Not Right, He Could Have Been Treated Slightly Better – Aakash Chopra On Shikhar Dhawan's Test Career
Updated - 03 Jan 2022, 01:28 PM
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has opined that the opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan could have had a longer run in Test cricket had the left-handed batter been treated better by the management.
Dhawan last played Test Cricket for India in the India tour of England 2018 where he managed to score just 162 runs at an average of 20.25 and after that, he was dropped from the team.

Aakash Chopra, while responding to a question by a fan about the turning point in Dhawan’s career in a video on his YouTube channel said:
“Test career, in my opinion, was the England tour where, to be very honest, it was not right. He could have been treated slightly better. He was played in the first match, was not played in the second, played the third, and then they dropped him.”
“It just did not go right. He could have played continuous matches; they were changing repeatedly, and that does not go down well. Personally, that’s my issue,” added the former India cricketer.
His Name Will Not Come In Test Cricket Now – Aakash Chopra On Shikhar Dhawan
The Cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted that Dhawan had some serious weakness in his batting which led to his failure in overseas conditions. Chopra added that the senior left-handed batsman Dhawan won’t make a comeback in the longest format of the game and he will have to consistently perform well to retain a place in the ODI team.
“There was a time when there were continuous overseas tours, and the opener’s job was very tough on overseas tours. Shikhar had two weaknesses – one was the swinging pitched-up delivery, and he was slightly troubled by the bouncer. You cannot do well in SENA countries with two weaknesses; it is very difficult,” Chopra stated.
“The story has gone too far from there now. That train has left the station; it is not going to come back now. His name will not come in Test cricket now. In ODI cricket also, he will have to keep holding it very tight because the World Cup is in 2023, and Shikhar Dhawan is not getting any younger by the day,’ Chopra further said.
