Also, Virat Kohli decided to step down as India’s T20I captain after ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the BCCI sacked him as ODI skipper. Recently, Kohli also relinquished the Test captaincy after the Test series defeat in South Africa.

Speaking on Shoaib Akhtar’s Youtube channel, Shastri said that the head coach Dravid should identify the right kind of players who will take Indian cricket forward in the upcoming years. He said:

“It’s a very important period for Indian cricket, there will be a period of transition in the next 8-10 months. It’s important to identify the right kind of players who will take you forward in 4-5 years. I always believe that there should be a mix between youth and experience.”

Shastri added that the changes are needed in the team and he wants Dravid and management to look for youth, who can take the team forward, as soon as possible. He asserted:

“Sometimes change is needed if you aim for the future. This is the time. They need to look for youth in the next six months, need to be quick. If you stick with the same for too long a period then the adjustment will be very difficult.”
