Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor played for a brief while with David Warner during his stint with Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Although they are rivals at the international level, the duo share a good bond off the field. On one of their trips to the pub, Warner had a few too many drinks and had become ‘loud and annoying’.

Taylor had no choice but to take the matters into his own hands, quite literally. He put the Aussie opener in a headlock to calm things down.

We were having a few drinks one night and Warner was getting a bit loud. By the time we got into the lift to go up to our rooms, he was being smart and annoying with it. I put him in a headlock and gave him a couple of don’t argues. ‘Oh f–k,’ he said, ‘I forgot you Islanders are strong.'”

It’s amazing what you can achieve with a headlock and a couple of jabs to the melon: David and I have been good ever since,” the former New Zealand batter said in his autobiography ‘Ross Taylor: Black & White’ as quoted by stuff.co.nz.

Ross Taylor feels he would have had a longer IPL career if he stayed with RCB

Taylor began his IPL stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore where he was highly impressive. However, he decided to move to the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2011 season following which his IPL career went on a downward spiral.

While it was amazing to go for a million dollars, in the long run I would’ve been better off if RCB had got me for US$950,000. If they had, it would have been my fourth year with them.”

While the IPL is pretty unsentimental, there is loyalty towards long-serving players and I probably would have had a longer IPL career as a one-franchise player,” Taylor also wrote.
