Former Indian stumper Deep Dasgupta has reckoned that the technical changes that swashbuckling opener, Prithvi Shaw, has brought in his batting, has paid dividends for him, as reflected in his performances since the Australian tour.

Prithvi Shaw endured a horrific last season where his technique [or the lack of it] was exposed to the hilt by the likes of Trent Boult, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins in the IPL and in the Adelaide Test respectively.

Static feet and a massive gap between his bat and pad led to Prithvi Shaw’s undoing in both the IPL as well as in Australia and, as a result, he was first dumped out of the playing XI and then from the Test squad.

A determined Shaw went back to the drawing board, spent some time with Pravin Amre to sort out his technical issues, and since then he had been in amazing form.

The 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning captain went on a rampage and broke all sorts of records in the 2021 Vijay Hazare 50-over tournament as he smashed a scarcely believable 827 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 138.29 with 4 tons.

He carried that form in the IPL as well, smashing 308 runs in 8 matches which included several match-winning knocks. Shaw is now in Sri Lanka to take part in 3 ODIs and as many T20Is, and the 21-year-old will be hoping to continue his amazing form.

‘’I think Prithvi Shaw is in great form. And obviously, he has changed quite a lot. During IPL, a few of us noticed that he has changed his footwork considerably. Earlier, he used beside the ball. Now, he’s going back and across a lot more and he playing in the line of the ball. The bat flow has improved as it is coming from a lot closer instead of afar. Like we saw during the IPL, and even before that in the Vijay Hazare (Trophy) that it’s been really effective for him,” said Deep Dasgupta while answering a question during a video on his YouTube channel.

The former Indian cricketer believes that for Prithvi Shaw, now it is just a matter of translating his talent into performances at the international level.

”You just have to wait and see what he does at the international level because this is sort of a comeback. His talent is world-class and it’s all about how converts that talent into performance,” said Deep Dasgupta.
