James Anderson to retire after India drubbing? England pacer opens up for the first time after the series

England pacer James Anderson shared an Instagram post after England faced a miserable 4-1 defeat against India in the recent Test series. James Anderson feels that Team India was too good this time.

England, who commenced the series with a victory in the opening Test, lost the next four games to witness a horrible defeat in the series. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team dominated them in the next four games to emerge as eventual champions.

Ben Stokes-led England won the 1st Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs. Later, India won the 2nd Test by 106 runs and the 3rd Test by 434 runs. Later, the home side also won the 4th Test by 5 wickets and the 5th Test by an innings and 64 runs.

India just too good this time: James Anderson

Taking to Instagram, England veteran pacer James Anderson said that India was too good this time and it was a tough end to the series. He also thanked fans for supporting the England team.

“A tough end to the series. India just too good this time. We gave it everything the last couple of months. Love being part of this test team and we’ll keep striving to improve and entertain. Thanks for all the support from back home and especially those who traveled. See you in the summer,” the 42-year-old wrote on Instagram.

James Anderson grabs 700 Test wickets

One of the positives for the England team was James Anderson reaching the milestone of 700 wickets in Tests. He became the third bowler to grab the feat and the first-ever pacer to hit the milestone. The right-arm pacer achieved the feat during the IND vs ENG 5th Test in Dharamsala.

Anderson was part of 4 Tests during the IND vs ENG Test series. He grabbed 10 wickets at an average of 33.50. With 22 wickets across 5 games, spinner Tom Hartley was England’s most successful bowler in the India vs England Test series.

R Aswhin reaches 500 Test wickets

Meanwhile, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also reached the milestone of 500 Test wickets during the series. With 26 scalps, the right-arm spinner ended as the leading wicket-taker in the series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Player of the Series award. The Indian opener mustered 712 runs across 9 innings to finish as the highest run-getter in the series. The left-handed batter slammed 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries in the series including a double ton.

Indian players will now head for IPL 2024, which commences on March 22. Later, they will head to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June, set to be played in the West Indies. Team India will not play any more bilateral series in the lead-up to World Cup. England players will also be part of IPL 2024. However, they are scheduled to play a T20I series against Pakistan in May. The T20I series will be played from May 22 to 30.
