Spearhead India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has made displaced Jason Holder to take the 9th spot in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings following his magnificent display at The Oval helping his side to a victory on Day 5.

Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets in the game, however, it was his spell of 6-3-6-2 in the second session which put India on the route to victory. The speedster made use of the little reverse available and cannoned balls through the defences of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow. He ended the innings with astonishing bowling figures: 22-9-27-2 – which is staggering as it came on an unhelpful pitch.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes entered the top 10 all-rounder ranking, taking the 9th position, on account of his fantastic return to Test cricket. Playing his first Test in over a year, Woakes took 7 wickets in the game and raises a crucial fifty in England’s first innings.

India opener Rohit Sharma gained rating points taking his tally to 813 after he struck his maiden overseas Test ton, which helped India take a healthy lead and also bagged him the Player Of The Match award.

He remains at the 5th spot, ahead of the 6th placed Virat Kohli (783 ratings), although much behind the fourth-placed Marnus Labuschagne (878). Joe Root, who had hit three centuries in the series so far, and 6 this year, leads the batting chart with 903 ratings.

Jasprit Bumrah completely shifted the momentum to our side: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli hailed Jasprit Bumrah’s “absolutely unbelievable” on Day 5. Kohli revealed that it was the pacer himself who asked to bowl as soon as he realized that the ball was reversing. Joe Root also termed that 6-over spree from Bumrah as the “turning point” in England’s innings as they had a good chance to escape with a draw on a flat pitch.

“Absolutely unbelievable spell. If you give 27 runs off 22 overs on this kind of pitch, that’s a huge effort in the last innings of the Test match. As you said the pitch hadn’t offered enough.

“But as soon as the ball started reversing a bit, Jasprit just said: “Just give me the ball.” And he bowled that six-over spell and got us two breakthroughs which completely shifted the momentum to our side. From there on, we knew anymore mistakes from England and we will be all over this game,” the Indian skipper said after the game.

This is only the second time that India have won two Tests on a tour of England – the first time since 1986. The fifth and the final Test will be played in Manchester from September 10th.
