A scary moment unfolded during Mumbai Indians’ (MI) practice session ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens on Wednesday, May 20. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah almost suffered a freak injury during the MI’s practice session.
Mumbai Indians, who are now out of the IPL 2026 playoffs race, shared the incident on their official social media handle on Wednesday, and the video went viral among fans in no time.
Jasprit Bumrah escapes major injury scare ahead of KKR vs MI clash in IPL 2026
In the clip shared by Mumbai Indians on X (formerly Twitter), Bumrah was seen casually walking and chatting with former MI captain Rohit Sharma during the training session at Eden Gardens.
But suddenly, out of nowhere, a fast-moving ball came flying towards Bumrah at high speed. The Indian pacer reacted instantly and quickly bent down to avoid getting hit. The moment looked extremely dangerous, as the ball could have left MI’s premier bowler injured.

Rohit Sharma looked completely shocked after seeing the ball come so close to Bumrah. While the former Indian captain looked worried for his teammate, Bumrah also appeared in fear and shock. The fast bowler was also seen trying to figure out where exactly the ball had come from.
Thankfully, Bumrah escaped the freak injury, which came as a huge relief for the Mumbai Indians and its fans, especially after he led the team to a thrilling victory over the Punjab Kings in their previous game. It was Bumrah’s debut match as IPL captain.

Jasprit Bumrah’s nightmare IPL 2026 numbers
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is enduring a tough IPL 2026 season with the five-time champions. The star fast bowler has managed to take only 3 wickets in 12 matches so far at a disappointing average of 129.67 and an economy rate of nearly 9, which is a shocking drop for one of the world’s best bowlers.
Bumrah came into this season after an incredible ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, where he picked up 14 wickets and played a key role in India’s title defense. But the Indian pacer’s IPL 2026 season has been a nightmare for the bowler and his team as well.
He even went through the longest wicketless spell of his IPL career, failing to take a wicket in his first five matches, and he finally got his first breakthrough against Gujarat Titans. Bumrah must be hoping to deliver in MI’s remaining two matches of this season.

Jasprit Bumrah will return for England T20I series after tough IPL 2026 season
On the other hand, Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming bilateral series against Afghanistan to manage his workload. He will be back in India colours in England, where the team is set to play five T20I matches from July 1, 2026.
India is set to host Afghanistan in the one-off Test in Mullanpur starting June 6, followed by three ODIs in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai on June 14, 17, and 20, respectively.
Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar told reporters after announcing the Test and ODI squads: “Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload.”
