India are reportedly considering resting pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for their final group-stage match against Oman during the Asia Cup 2025. The team management could allow other options, including Arshdeep Singh, ahead of the Super Four stage matches in the eight-team tournament.
India have secured their spot in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup after back-to-back wins. The Men in Blue will play their final group-stage match against Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, September 19. Suryakumar Yadav's side could test their bench strength ahead of the next round.
Team India Could Rest Jasprit Bumrah from India's Playing XI
There have been speculations that India may rest Jasprit Bumrah for their upcoming clash against Oman. There has been no official confirmation, but the team might prioritize managing the workload of their premier fast bowler.
India could play four matches in just seven days if they progress to the Asia Cup final. The management would aim to preserve Bumrah's fitness for the crucial phase of the tournament while also providing Arshdeep Singh with valuable game time.
Bumrah recorded bowling figures of 2 for 28 against Pakistan. He surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar to reach fourth place on India’s list of all-time T20I wicket-takers. The pacer has taken 92 wickets in 72 matches at an average of 17.67 and an economy rate of 6.29.
Arshdeep Singh Likely to Replace Jasprit Bumrah in Playing XI
India started their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with back-to-back wins. They defeated the UAE by nine wickets on September 9 and then recorded a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan five days later. They are at the top of their group with a game to spare.
Arshdeep Singh did not feature in the first two matches. Jasprit Bumrah played as the only frontline pacer, while all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube provided additional pace options. India retained the same lineup for the clash against Pakistan.
Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are contenders to replace Bumrah in the playing XI. Arshdeep needs just one wicket to become the eighth Indian bowler to reach 100 T20I wickets. He would also add left-arm variety to India’s bowling attack.
India’s Batsmen to Gain Valuable Practice Against Oman
The upcoming match will give India’s middle-order batters valuable time at the crease, as several players have had little or no opportunity so far in the tournament.
It could serve as a platform for batters like Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, who have yet to make an impact, to spend time in the middle.
Suryakumar Yadav and the team leadership may reshuffle the batting order to test different combinations, while youngsters such as Rinku Singh could be given a chance to prove themselves in a competitive environment.
India's Probable XI vs Oman: Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav
