India pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah opened up about retiring from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Jasprit Bumrah dismissed speculations about his retirement during the felicitation at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening.
Jasprit Bumrah played a crucial role in the Men in Blue's unbeaten campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led team lifted the T20 World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa in the summit clash in Barbados. Notably, it was the Indian cricket team's second T20 World Cup trophy in nine editions.
Following India's victorious World Cup campaign, three stalwarts bid farewell to T20I cricket. India captain Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is. Rohit secured two T20 World Cups while Virat and Jadeja clinched one in their illustrious careers.

Jasprit Bumrah addressed questions about his retirement from T20Is after winning the World Cup. The ace fast bowler stated that he has no plans to retire anytime soon. He described retirement from the T20I format as "a long way away."
"It’s (my retirement) is a long way away. I have just started. Hopefully, it is far away now," Bumrah said during the felicitation at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate Team India’s World Cup triumph.
Jasprit Bumrah is considered one of the greatest fast bowlers in Indian history. The right-arm pacer delivered a match-winning spell in the final match to turn the game in India's favor. The South African cricket team failed to score 30 runs off 30 deliveries in the final match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Bumrah picked up two wickets for 18 runs in his four overs in India's victory in the final match. The 30-year-old showcased phenomenal performances throughout the tournament. The right-arm pacer took 3/14 against Pakistan, 3/7 versus Afghanistan in the Super 8s, and 2/12 in the semi-final against England.

After India won the T20 World Cup, tears of joy were visible on every player's face. For Bumrah, the presence of his son, Angad, made the moment even more emotional. Bumrah described it as unreal and noted that seeing his son brought overwhelming emotions, adding that he cried multiple times.
"It was unreal. Usually, I am not the one who is at a loss of words, but seeing my son, the emotions that came in. I never cry after the game, but I started crying, and I cried two, three times," Bumrah added.
Bumrah earned the 'Player of the Tournament' accolade for stellar bowling throughout the tournament. He finished as the tournament's third-highest wicket-taker, securing 15 dismissals in eight games at an impressive average of 8.27. He conceded just 4.17 runs per over in the marquee ICC tournament.
