Pakistan which has the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023 is finding it difficult to hold the event. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah & Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah had made it clear in 2022 that they won’t travel to Pakistan and wanted the tourney to be held in a neutral venue. Former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja even had threatened to pull out of the 2023 World Cup which is in India.

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said that the decision was taken unilaterally. A meeting has been scheduled with the ACC members in Bahrain on 4th February (Saturday) where a final decision would be taken. Pakistan hosted Asia Cup was back in 2008 where Sri Lanka had defeated India in the final

BCCI Source on Asia Cup 2023

A source close to BCCI made interesting comments on Asia Cup 2023.”Jay is in Bahrain for the ACC meeting. “The B CCI’s stand will not change. We will not be traveling to Pakistan as we haven’t got any go-ahead from the government.” said the source.

Crucial Meeting for PCB

PCB has been awarded the hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, if this Asia Cup 2023 gets snatched away from them then questions would raise about their 2025 CT. There have been talks going on that PCB would get the rights but the tournament would be hosted in UAE or Qatar as Qatar has shown interest. We all witnessed that how UAE staged 2022 Asia Cup where Sri Lanka had the rights.

It looks unlikely that the tournament would take place in Pakistan as Jay Shah has said that the decision of travelling to Pakistan is of entire government’. We all know that the two nations don’t have healthy relations. It would be interesting to see how the meeting unfolds where Pakistani fans would be hoping that they get to see a multi-nation event in September.
