As England announced their squad for the three-match ODI series against India, which begins from March 23 in the MCA stadium in Pune, the big news was that Jofra Archer’s name was missing from the squad list and that he will also be unavailable for the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

As per the ECB media release, Archer has been troubled by his injury on the right elbow, which made him sit out of the two Tests of the four-match Test series against India. Though he played in all the five T20I matches against India, it was reported that he was in considerable discomfort and it was said that he would have an injection in his elbow.

ECB medical team will look after Archer’s injury and rehabilitation, but this meant that he would be missing the ODI series against India and the first half of the IPL 2021 for his franchise Rajasthan Royals. England coach Chris Silverwood called it a sensible decision on Archer’s part given his importance to England’s plans in upcoming tournaments and series.

Silverwood’s remark came as Archer was deemed unfit for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India.

“It was a joint decision and he put England first basically. He needs to get this right and he needs some time to do that. It is about we give him the best chance to be successful for England and all parties agreed on that front. Jofra was very keen on that as well. He wants to be there at the T20 World Cup and the Ashes, it was not a difficult decision, it was a sensible decision,” Silverwood told UK Media in a virtual press conference on Sunday.

“It is very satisfying, it shows how passionate Jofra is for playing for England and how much he enjoys playing for England. We respect that, we enjoy having him around, whatever we can do to help, we will,” he added.

Jofra Archer had taken 7 wickets in the five T20I matches against India including his T20I career-best 4/33.
