Khaled Mahmud Fined For Violating BCB Code Of Conduct

On Monday, February 13, Khaled Mahmud was fined for violating the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) code of conduct in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Mahmud is the head coach of the Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He was caught smoking inside the dressing room during a BPL match between Khulna Tigers and Fortune Barishal.

The pictures of Khaled Mahmud smoking during the match were circulated on social media, which left BCB high-ups embarrassed. Notably, the 51-year-old holds key positions in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He is the BCB game development chairman and BCB cricket operation vice-chairman. Also, he is the team director of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

In an official media release, BCB stated that Khaled Mahmud has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee. Also, two demerit points have been added to Mahmud’s disciplinary record.

“Mahmud was fined 30 per cent of his match fees for a Level 1 breach (Article 2.20; Conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game) of the BCB Code of Conduct Players and Player Support Personnel during the Ispahani BPL T20 match against Fortune Barishal at the SBNCS, Mirpur on 10 February,” a BCB statement read.

“In addition to the fine, two (02) demerit points have been added to Mahmud’s disciplinary record. On-field umpires Ali Arman Rajon and Ravindra Wimalasari, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman and fourth official Mahfuzur Rahman Litu levelled the charge. Mahmud accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Debabrata Paul and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing,” it added.

BCB disciplinary committee chairman Sheikh Sohel said that Khaled Mahmud did a big mistake of smoking inside the dressing room.

Look a crime is a crime and we cannot compromise on that. He had done mistake by smoking in the dressing room and so he was punished. On disciplinary issues we won’t spare anyone no matter who he is,” BCB disciplinary committee chairman Sheikh Sohel told Cricbuzz.

Apart from Mahmud, Rangpur Riders players Shak Mahedi Hasan and Nicholas Pooran as well as Comilla Victorians player Musaddek Hossain have also been fined for breaching the BCB Code of Conduct.

Shak Mahedi Hasan violated (Level 1) of Article 2.2, which refers to the abuse of cricket equipment, during the Eliminator on February 12 against Fortune Barishal. He has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.

Nicholas Pooran violated the clothing regulations of the board (Level 1, Article 2.22) in the same match. He was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and two demerit points have been added to his record.

Meanwhile, Musaddek violated the logo guideline (Level 1, Article 2.22) in the first Qualifier against Sylhet Strikers at the SBNCS on 12 February. He has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.
