Former cricketers criticised the fans’ chants, but former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed also spoke in-depth about how the team’s players were not open to criticism.
Fans began chanting “parchi” at Khushdil Shah after the seventh T20I of the series against England, where he had performed poorly.

In the shortest format of the game, Pakistan is experiencing a middle-order crisis because, ever since the 2022 Asia Cup, their middle-order batsmen have struggled to perform under pressure, with the majority of runs being scored by the opening pair of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

Following Khushdil Shah’s dismissal during the seventh and final T20I of the series against England last week, the Pakistani crowd chanted “Parchi” in criticism at the underwhelming player.

“You don’t need others to praise you”: Aaqib Javed

The chant is a phrase used to denote that a player was added to the team based on reputation rather than ability. Former cricketers criticised the fans’ chants, but former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed also spoke in-depth about how the team’s players were not open to criticism.

Javed’s remarks follow PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s disclosure of his conversation with Babar, in which the Pakistani captain claimed that the media unfairly criticises his country’s athletes.

“This is very unfortunate. Whether it’s the board, the team management or the player, the main job is to execute the skill. When you take five wickets in a game, you don’t need others to praise you because you know you have done well,” Javed said during a conversation with reporters.

He should be focusing on performances: Aaqib Javed

Aaqib Javed from Pakistan also stated that Khushdil Shah “cried” in the locker room following the “Parchi” chants and insisted that the players should concentrate on improving their appearances rather than the remarks made in the media.

“You are appreciated for the work you do. Khushdil was crying in the dressing room, what’s the point of that? He shouldn’t be focusing on what people are saying, he should instead be focusing on performances. If you score, if you score a hundred or a fifty, the people will praise you. Why are they not focusing on their performances?” said Aaqib Javed.

Khushdil Shah was targeted with ‘parchi’ chants by fans after he failed to perform during the seventh T20I of the series against England.
