Sunrisers Hyderabad's Australian captain Pat Cummins has claimed that his title-winning run in the finals might end in the IPL 2024 final later tonight.

The Sunrisers are all set to take on league stage table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders in the finale, which is going to take place at the MA Chidambaram stadium. It is the venue wherein the Knight Riders won their maiden Indian Premier League title back in 2012 and tonight they will have to beat Pat Cummins' side to claim their 3rd title.

Hyderabad on the other hand have the opportunity to get their hands on a 2nd IPL title and first since 2016 when David Warner led them to glory. It has been a tremendous season for Pat Cummins, who captained a team in the League for the first time. In his very first attempt, he led SRH to their best league finish in 3 seasons and also got them to their first final since 2018.

Pat Cummins says he doesn't know what to expect from IPL 2024 final

While speaking in a press conference held in Chennai on the eve of the IPL 2024 final, Pat Cummins expressed his thoughts ahead of the finale against his former side. As we all know, Cummins tasted massive success as captain of the Australian National team last year when the Kangaroos won the World Test Championship 2023 and the 50-over CWC final.

On both occasions, Pat Cummins' Aussie side defeated Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue. So it goes without saying that the right-arm pacer is a serial winner in the finals but it remains to be seen if he can replicate the same in an IPL final. Before the Cricket World Cup final last year, Cummins had pledged to silence a million Indian fans in Ahmedabad and so he did.

But his thoughts are not the same ahead of his first IPL final as captain. When asked about how we would feel to win the coveted Premier League trophy, Pat Cummins stated that it would be a great achievement for him. However, he also believes that the law of averages might come into play later tonight and so his title-winning run might end at some point in time.

Since Pat Cummins hasn't captained a T20 team before, he has no idea as to what he can expect. "It would be great (winning the title) but the run's going to stop at some point. It's been a great couple of years, but I haven't captained any T20 cricket team before this series. So, I'm not too sure what to expect. It's quite fast-paced." - Cummins said in a press conference.

Cummins is set to become the 4th Australian Captain to win the IPL

If Pat Cummins and Co. end up on the winning side of things, then the pacer will become just the 4th Australian to win the tournament as captain. In the first two editions back in 2008 and 2009, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist had led Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers to the beautiful golden trophy.

In 2016, David Warner became the 3rd Aussie skipper to win the richest T20 league for Sunrisers Hyderabad. And tonight, Pat Cummins has the chance to join the elite list.
