Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria opined that with just one knock KL Rahul is close to cementing his place in India’s Test eleven. In the ongoing Test against England in Nottingham, Rahul was set out to open alongside Rohit Sharma after Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal were unavailable.
Rahul, who was being prepared for a middle-order role, looked a more mature and confident batsman than he was when he was dropped nearly two years ago. He first laid the foundation with a 97-run opening stand with Sharma, and then after seeing a collapse on the other end, remained calm to take India past England’s total with a valiant 84-run knock.
Danish Kaneria was largely impressed with Rahul’s patience and judgment while leaving the balls outside the off-stump.

“The way KL Rahul applied himself was really superb. He batted exactly the way one has to in England. KL Rahul is apparently cementing his place at the top of the order in Test cricket. The ball was moving and there was also uneven bounce. But he played steadily and with confidence,” Danish Kaneria said in his YouTube video.

Danish Kaneria further lauded Ravindra Jadeja for his half-century, taking the responsibility after Rahul departed. Jadeja vindicated his selection over R Ashwin as the spin-bowling all-rounder; he was indeed preferred over the off-spinner for his superior batting prowess, which came to the fore in helping India to a healthy lead.
The 40-year-old former Pakistani spinner opined that Jadeja is the kind of player who should be first on the team sheet in any format across conditions.

“Whenever you make an ODI, T20I or Test team, Jadeja is a type of player that cannot be left out. He is a remarkable all-rounder. His brilliant knock of 56 and Rahul’s innings helped India take a first-innings lead,” Kaneria concluded.
