KL Rahul Is A Very Decent Captain, He's A Good Thinker Of The Game – Salman Butt

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has said that the opening batsman KL Rahul is a decent captain and a good thinker of the game.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Rahul as the new Test vice-captain of the team for the series against South Africa. Notably, Rohit Sharma was appointed as deputy of Virat Kohli in Tests and he was set to be part of the three-match Test series against South Africa. However, in a training session, Rohit suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the Test series and Priyank Panchal was named his replacement.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Salman Butt said that Rahul has been named as Test vice-captain because the BCCI sees a future leader in him. Butt said:

“KL Rahul has captained Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He is a very decent captain. He’s a good thinker of the game. He has not had a strong team but he has emerged as a lone fighter. He’s kept wickets and opened the innings, which shows he can handle responsibilities. You only make a player the vice-captain when you see him as a future leader,”

India Can Win In South Africa, But It Won’t Be Easy – Salman Butt

Butt believes that India has full potential to register their maiden series win in this South Africa tour. However, he feels winning the series won’t be an easy job for the team because South Africa are an aggressive team and have a good pace battery. He said:

“India can win in South Africa. But it won’t be easy. South Africa are aggressive and they have a good fast bowling attack. But India have the capabilities to seal the series. However, the absence of Rohit Sharma will be felt.”

Butt further added that nobody is fitter than Kohli in world cricket and his career will not end anytime soon. He asserted:

“Nobody is fitter than Virat Kohli in the Indian team, or even in world cricket. His era won’t come to an end as long as he scores run. The form is temporary but class is permanent. Don’t think his career is coming to an end anytime soon.”

Meanwhile, the India tour of South Africa is scheduled to begin from December 26 and India will play three Tests and three ODIs in the tour and the ODI series will begin from January 19.
