Krunal Pandya Resigns As Baroda's Captain After SMAT Debacle

Bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya has confirmed that he has stepped down from the captaincy role of Baroda’s domestic team. The elder Pandya brother emailed Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) President, Pranav Amin, to inform the decision.
Baroda performed terribly in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), which was won by Tamil Nadu. They finished last in Group B, having won just one game out of five. They failed to make the knockout stage as a reason, and this poor run could be the cause for Krunal’s decision.

“This is to put on record that I will be unavailable to lead Baroda in the current domestic season. However, I will be available for selection to play for the team. I will offer my best as a team member and player to Baroda cricket. My support and contribution will always be in the best interest of the team,” Krunal’s email, which The Indian Express accessed, read.
Kedar Devdhar expected to replace Krunal Pandya
Veteran player Kedar Devdhar is the frontrunner for the skipper’s role. However, the BCA is also considering appointing Bhargav Bhatt as the vice-captain of the side. Their first assignment will be the Vijay Hazare Trophy which will begin next month.
Krunal Pandya’s stint as the captain did have a few troublesome episodes, none bigger than the spat with Deepak Hooda. The Baroda batsman alleged that he was abused by Krunal and subsequently switched allegiances to Rajasthan.
The spat wasn’t resolved, but the duo hasn’t come head-to-head since the incident.
