Ishan Kishan Could Be The First Pick For Mumbai Indians– Irfan Pathan Names 4 Mumbai Indians IPL 2022 Retentions

World Cup-winning all-rounder Irfan Pathan has named four potential retentions for Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Mumbai Indians (MI) is the franchise that will very hard to retain only 4 players because they have a star-studded line-up from top to bottom. Meanwhile, all the IPL teams will have to submit the names of the retained players before November 30 and the teams are allowed to retain only 4 players including a maximum of 3 Indians and a maximum of 2 overseas players.

Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan believes that wicketkeeper-batsman Kishan should be retained over all-rounder Hardik Pandya because Pandya has witnessed a big downfall in his career. Speaking on Star Sports during the lunch interval on Day 2 of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Kanpur, Pathan said:

“Ishan Kishan could be the first pick for Mumbai Indians. As for Hardik Pandya, you have got to understand. His form has dipped big time in the last one year, so MI would be aware of that. Quite a few things go on when you have to make the first four picks before the auction.”

Pathan added that Kishan is the future and looking at the longevity MI should retain the young wicketkeeper-batsman. He said:

“So I feel they would look at the longevity and think – can we invest in Hardik Pandya or in Ishan Kishan? The future. Looking at that, they might go for Ishan Kishan and then maybe Hardik Pandya.”

Among Overseas Players, It Will Be Kieron Pollard, No Doubt About That – Irfan Pathan

Pathan further added that West Indies powerhouse Pollard should be the automatic overseas pick for the team as he has been winning MI games for a very long time and he has still got it. He said:

“Among overseas players, it will be Kieron Pollard. No doubt about that; at least in my mind. I don’t know what Mumbai Indians are thinking. He is the guy that has won you games for so many years and consistently. His batting is still top-notch and is still the powerhouse when it comes to big hitting as well as finishing the games.”

Pathan also said that Captain Rohit Sharma will be the first retention for MI followed by pacer Jasprit Bumrah. He said:

“So, Pollard will definitely be on the radar. I would definitely go for Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya. I can actually name the other two guys as well. No. 1 would be Rohit Sharma and No. 2 would be Jasprit Bumrah.”
