Former India National Cricket Team opener Wasim Jaffer slammed the Indian team management for dropping Kuldeep Yadav from the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Kuldeep was dropped from the playing eleven only after featuring in one Test in the two-match series. Jaffer said that it is wrong to drop someone only after one match.

The Indian cricket team named Saransh Jain as the replacement for Kuldeep. BCCI and the Team India captain Shubman Gill informed that they dropped Kuldeep as he was not fit to play the match.

Why is Kuldeep Yadav not playing in the ongoing Test match in Colombo?

Gill at the toss of the ongoing match informed that the experienced spinner had an infection. BCCI mentioned in an official release that Kuldeep Yadav was ill but could be used as a concussion sub if the team required.

There are explanations behind the snub of Kuldeep from the playing eleven, but Wasim Jaffer sensed a different story which might have been kept under cover. In the previous Test match against Sri Lanka, which was in Galle, Manav Suthar claimed 10 wickets; Ravindra Jadeja also bowled decently.

In comparison to Suthar and Jadeja, Kuldeep was mostly ineffective. Jaffer felt that maybe because of the underwhelming performance in the Galle Test, the Indian team management went against selecting Kuldeep for the series decider.

"It is not right to drop someone after just one match. As it is, in the first game there were three spinners, so someone had to be under-bowled, and that was Kuldeep. If he is unwell, then it's a different thing, but if he has been dropped, this is not right for any player," Jaffer said in his YouTube video.

Not in the favourites list: Wasim Jaffer says about Kuldeep Yadav's position in the Indian cricket team

Furthermore, in the video, the former cricketer noted that India's next Test match will be in New Zealand, where Kuldeep Yadav's chances to play are not very bright. Jaffer also expressed that Kuldeep becomes inconsistent for the Indian cricket team, maybe because he is not among the 'favorites'.

"India plays fewer Tests, and after this, they will play in New Zealand, where Kuldeep will not play anyway. It has been seen for a while that he is not being given consistent chances, and he is not in the favorites list. It is unfortunate. I feel very sad, and I hope he bounces back wherever he gets an opportunity. Maybe in the Ranji Trophy or the next IPL," he added.

Making This est debut in 2017, the spinner has so far represented India in only 17 matches. In 2026, the perticiaped only in a couple of Tests so far, and in the previous year, he played two Tests against West Indies and another two Tests against South Africa. Not only in Tests, but in the other two formats of the game also, Kuldeep Yadav is not a regular player in India's playing combination.
