Sri Lanka National Cricket Team batter Kusal Mendis achieved a massive feat for his team in international cricket. The keeper-batter became the 10th player from the Island Nation to go past 10000 runs across all three formats of the game.
Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis achieved the feat during the ongoing second Test match against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The second game of the two-match Test series between the teams is underway at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle.
Kusal Mendis has been one of the most talented batters for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The keeper-batter is the backbone of the team in all three formats of the game and is playing a massive role for the team in staging a comeback to cricket, having been below par for the last few years.
Kusal Mendis has looked in solid touch with the bat in the ongoing game. He first slammed a solid half-century for his team and has put his team in a solid position on Day 2 of the game. He came to bat after the Team lost skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (44).
After that, he batted with a positive mindset and made sure that he made a mockery of the New Zealand bowlers. He, along with Kamindu Mendis (150*), added over 150 runs partnership with the bat quickly and made sure that they took their team to a total of over 550 runs.
Mendis slammed a sensational century and his innings surely have put the opposition on the back foot. He has been given the new role to bat at No.6 and he is performing that role to perfection. He has played a major for his team in Test cricket and he will be crucial for his team going ahead. This was his 10th Test ton for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
With his innings, Kusal Mendis became the 10th player from Sri Lanka to score over 10000 runs. He joined the likes of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena, and Angelo Matthews to enter the elite list. With the way he is going, the number is only expected to rise.
