Lance Klusener was one of the six candidates interviewed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) three weeks ago. However, he has decided to pull out of the process to concentrate on T20 franchise roles, as per the same report.

Currently, there are five candidates in contention to become the white-ball and red-ball coach of the South Africa National Cricket Team; current interim coach Malibongwe Maketa, former national assistant coach Adrian Birrell, experienced franchise and under-19 coach Shukri Conrad, former Titans coach Rob Walter and former West Indies director of cricket Richard Pybus.

Notably, the South Africa National Cricket Team are set to adopt a spilt-coaching system this time around with the red-ball coach focusing on the Test team and first-class cricket while the white-ball coach focusing on the ODIs and T20Is. Klusener had applied for the limited-overs post.

Cricket South Africa will likely announce the new coaching setup by the middle of January and the white-ball coach will start his assignment with the series against England.

The England tour of South Africa 2023 consists of three ODIs. The matches will be played on January 27, 29 and February 1. The fixtures will make up the series taking place in Bloemfontein at the Mangaung Oval and in Kimberley at The Kimberley Oval.
