India World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has said that there should be no comparison made between the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar and his son Arjun Tendulkar.
The 22-year-old Arjun Tendulkar, who has been part of Mumbai Indians (MI) for a significant amount of time, is yet to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut.
In the Indian Premier League 2022 almost every youngster in the Mumbai Indians squad got the chance to play after Rohit Sharma and Co. got knocked out early on in the tournament but Arjun was not given a game.
Meanwhile, Kapil Dev talked about Arjun and said that the left-arm pacer has extra pressure on him due to the Tendulkar surname and his surname brings perks as well as disadvantages. He also said that Arjun should be allowed to play freely without comparing him to his father.
“Why is everyone talking about him? Because he is Sachin Tendulkar’s son. Let him play his own cricket and do not compare with Sachin. To have a Tendulkar name has perks and disadvantages as well.
“Don Bradman’s son changed his name because he could not soak that kind of pressure. He removed the surname Bradman because everyone expected him to turn out like his father,” Kapil said on Uncut.
Don’t put pressure on Arjun – Kapil Dev
Legendary Indian all-rounder further urged everyone not to put pressure on Arjun. He also advised Arjun to play freely and enjoy himself without thinking about proving anything to anyone.
“Don’t put pressure on Arjun. He is a young boy. Who are we to say anything to him when he has the great Sachin as his father? But I would still just like to tell him one thing… Go and enjoy yourself.
“No need to prove anything. If you can become even 50 percent like your father… there is nothing better. When the name Tendulkar comes up, our expectations rise because Sachin was such a great,” said the former India all-rounder.
