Shaheen Afridi was one of the finds of Pakistan in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. He spearheaded the Pakistan pace attack in their unbeaten run through the league stage. They registered dominant victories which included a 10-wicket win over arch-rivals India in Dubai. However, they had to bow out of the tournament after losing to eventual winners Australia in the semi-final.

Australia played better cricket on the night and a cameo from Matthew Wade took the game away from the Men in Green. Talking exclusively to Cricbuzz, Shaheen Afridi opened up on Pakistan’s loss and how difficult it was to digest as a team.

It was… (difficult). Luck wasn’t on our side, we can say that. We tried to give our best. Shadab bowled so well, Fakhar batted so well” said Afridi with a tone of sadness.

He further said that the campaign overall was a memorable one for Pakistan as was the entire year of 2021. He spoke about several Pakistan players winning ICC awards and said that the team is looking forward to scale new heights in 2022.

“But overall, the tournament and the entire year was very good for Pakistan. You must have seen, a lot of ICC awards have all come to one place. As a team, we have high hopes for this year too. There’s a lot of games coming up… Tests, Asia Cup, World Cup. We are ready for it” he said.

With the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup scheduled to be played later this year, Pakistan has a lot to achieve in the new year given they form a formidable team for it. Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen are the faces of Pakistan cricket at the moment as they are playing every format.

Afridi’s spell of 3/31 against India was instrumental behind his team’s massive win in the T20 World Cup. This was also Pakistan’s first win over India in any ICC tournament. India’s score of 151 was tracked den by Rizwan &79* and Babar 68 * inside 18 overs.
