Australian cricketer Adam Zampa, who is currently playing for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, shared his favourite cricket memory. The 34-year-old chose the victory against the India national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Australia, led by Pat Cummins, defeated Rohit Sharma’s side at the world’s biggest stadium on November 19, 2023. The loss shattered billions of dreams across India as the Australian national cricket team silenced the massive crowd by winning the World Cup, recording their sixth trophy in the 50-over format.

2023 World Cup Is Definitely My Favourite Memory - Adam Zampa

During a recent interview, Adam Zampa said that winning the ODI World Cup was incredibly special. He also mentioned his international debut and the T20 World Cup 2021 win as great moments. However, he stated that nobody expected Australia to win the World Cup final in India.

"Yeah, 2023 World Cup is definitely my favourite memory. When you've been around this long, there are plenty - your debut, the 2021 World Cup, that was great as well," Zampa said.

"But winning a World Cup, especially one we weren't really expected to win, stands out. And to beat India in front of 120,000 people - when the crowd suddenly goes quiet - that's a pretty special feeling. We gave it a real nudge,” he added.

Adam Zampa Instrumental in Australia’s 2023 World Cup Triumph

Adam Zampa played a key role in Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup triumph. He took 23 wickets in 11 matches and finished as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker. The leg-spinner also recorded the most wickets by an Australian spinner in a single World Cup, going past Shane Warne.

He struggled early against India and South Africa but quickly turned things around. He picked up 8 wickets in his next two matches and became a reliable force in the middle overs. His spell of 4/8 against the Netherlands and strong performances against Sri Lanka and Pakistan proved crucial.

Beyond bowling, he also made useful contributions with the bat, including 29 runs off 19 balls against England, adding value to Australia’s sixth World Cup title win.

India Fell Short Of Third ODI World Cup Title Despite Dominant 2023 Campaign

India secured their first ODI World Cup win in 1983 under Kapil Dev against the West Indies at Lord’s, and then in 2011 when MS Dhoni’s team defeated Sri Lanka in the final. They had a chance to add another trophy to their name, especially with the tournament being played at home.

Under Rohit Sharma, India dominated the competition, winning all nine group-stage matches and topping the table with 18 points. They continued their form by beating New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-final to reach the final.

In the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023, India managed only 240 runs. Australia chased it down comfortably, winning by six wickets with seven overs remaining. The next ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.
