Former England National Cricket Team batter Mark Butcher talked about the omission of fast bowler Ollie Robinson from the Test squad. He said that the team management, especially head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes, lost trust in him.

Ollie Robinson, who was seen as the potential replacement for James Anderson, has witnessed a great downfall in his career. The fast bowler, since last year, has struggled to get going and has also been criticized a lot for his poor form as well as his speed with the ball.

Ollie Robinson last played for England in the Test series against India. He didn't get to play all five games of the series, as he was given the opportunity in just one game. He couldn't make an impact with the ball as he went wicketless and also leaked a lot of runs for his team.

Ollie Robinson didn't feature in the England squad during the home summer. He missed all the six games that the team played and also has been left out of the squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan. This came as a surprise as he was magnificent with the ball during his last tour to Pakistan, with 9 wickets at an average of 21.22.

With Ollie Robinson missing out, Mark Butcher believes that the skills and poor form aren't a reason behind his omission. According to him, there is a breakdown of trust between the fast bowler and the management. Speaking to Wisden, he explained:

"I don't think there's any denying his [Robinson's] skill as a bowler, and I'm pretty sure that is not the reason why he's on the outside at the moment. I think there's been a breakdown in trust between him and the management. From what I've heard and what I think I know, the covenant of trust between those guys and the player has broken down almost irretrievably."

Mark Butcher pointed out that England players are given a lot of leeway by management, and Ollie Robinson has broken that trust quite a few times. He added:

"The management would lay the blame at his door firmly; he might have a riposte to that, but that is it. There are no denying the numbers or the skill he has. But the England players are given quite a lot of leeway in terms of the trust they are given by management, and I think he's broken that once too many for [Brendon] McCullum and [Ben] Stokes and therefore finds himself on the outer."

I can get back there next year - Ollie Robinson on his England return

Ollie Robinson also recently talked about his desire to make a comeback to the England team. He said that he will be working on his fitness and wants to return to the team for the Ashes, which will be played in Australia. Speaking to BBC, he explained:

"I'm really going to ramp up my fitness - my goal is to play Test cricket for England. That's where my head's at at the minute - get as fit as possible, be ready for April when we return to Division One and put in good performances again.

"The Ashes down under is something I've always wanted to win. From being a little kid to now, every morning I wake up and that's a goal of mine. That's what I've got inside me, that drive. And hopefully, I can get back there next year."

Ollie Robinson has been decent for England in Tests. He has picked 76 wickets at an average of 22.92, including three five-wicket hauls in 20 matches.
