The England National Cricket Team is up against the Pakistan National Cricket Team for the first of the three-match Test series at Headingley, in Leeds. Amidst this, England team pacer Mark Wood has shared his insights on who has the best style to appeal from the players from the Three Lions, and he has given shocking answers.

Mark Wood has been out of cricket for a long time; he has opened up about considering life after cricket while managing a slow recovery from a serious knee injury sustained during the Ashes last year, and since then he has not featured for the Three Lions across formats. He has been an amazing pacer, but his career has been cut short by injuries.

Mark Wood names his favourite player appeal

While speaking with Sky Sports, Mark Wood humorously picked Adil Rashid as his favourite for his dramatic appeals, as he jokingly stated that the veteran leg-spinner nearly runs back to the umpire and almost begs for the batter to be given out speedster also showcased the pose in the video of how Adil Rashid appeals.

"My favourite appeal is Adil Rashid, because he sort of does that beg back to the umpire, doesn't he? He appeals and then he runs back to the umpire and says, "That's got to be out, I'm begging you!" And to be fair, he is good and he gets most of them right."

Mark Wood takes hilarious dig over Stuart Broad's style of appeal

Wood also poked fun at his former teammate Stuart Broad, revealing the latter’s appeal style as he would appeal without even looking back at the umpire and simply carry on running towards the teammate.

"Well, the worst is Sky Sports friend Stuart Broad, who doesn't even look back at the umpire, just carries off and keeps running. No need to look back at the umpires. It’s Stuart Broad's game, isn't it?"

Mark Wood's career

Wood has not been named in the 16-man squad for the first two Test matches against Pakistan, as he is not fully fit. He has not played a Test match since November 2025. He has had injuries that have shortened his career.

Despite a major knee surgery in March 2025, he attempted a high-profile return during the first Ashes Test in Perth, but managed only 11 overs before breaking down again. He has played 38 Test matches, picking 119 wickets, 70 ODIs, picking 80 wickets, and 38 T20Is, taking 54 wickets.

Stuart Broad's career

Stuart Broad announced his retirement from all professional cricket on July 29, 2023, during the fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia at The Oval. His career officially ended on July 31, 2023. He has been one of the best fast bowlers that England has ever produced in the traditional format of the game.

Broad ended his career with the second most wickets by an English pacer in Test cricket. In 167 Test matches, he picked 604 wickets and overall ranked fifth for the most Test wickets; his partnership with James Anderson was amazing to watch as they played in 138 Test matches.
