Australia cricketer Marnus Labuschagne achieved a massive landmark on Day 2 (Friday, December 5) of the second Test match against England at the Gabba in Brisbane during the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series. The right-handed batter became the first cricketer to score over 1,000 runs in day-night Test matches.
England posted a total of 334 in the first innings. Zak Crawley scored 76 and Joe Root smashed an unbeaten 138. The visiting team went into the field expecting to build pressure with the ball. However, the home team arrived with a clear plan and executed it well to counter England’s hopes of taking early control.

Australia recovered well after Travis Head’s early dismissal. Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne added 69 runs for the second wicket. Weatherald scored 72 from 78 balls before being dismissed, and Labuschagne reached his half-century.
During his knock, Labuschagne created history by becoming the first player to score over 1,000 runs in day-night Test matches. He began the Gabba Test with 958 pink-ball runs, already the highest in the format, and crossed the four-figure mark in just his 16th innings.

Labuschagne was dropped from the Australian Test team but earned a recall following impressive performances in domestic cricket. He scored 60 runs across both innings in the opening Test in Perth, where Australia secured an eight-wicket victory.
