New Zealand seamer Matt Henry, who was only part of the ODI series against Bangladesh has now been included in the T20I series as well with Finn Allen testing positive for Covid-19. Matt Henry was a revelation in the 2019 World cup taking a lot of wickets with the new ball and he bowled those banana outswingers as well.
Henry played a test against England recently in June and he hasn’t been a limited-overs specialist always. The right-arm fast bowler has played just the 6 T20 internationals so far for New Zealand picking up 7 wickets at an economy rate of 8.68. However, his good form in other formats might help him for the T20I series against Bangladesh.
Matty Henry Expands New Zealand’s Selection Options, Reckons Gary Stead
New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead admitted that Matt Henry isn’t the perfect replacement for Finn Allen as the latter is a wicket-keeper batsman while Henry is a medium pacer. He added Henry has been named because of him being a different selection option and explained about his vaccination status that will be very helpful for the team at the moment.
“Matt’s clearly not a like-for-like replacement for Finn, but he expands our selection options and, in the current circumstances, is the best equipped to join the side at such short notice,”
“He’s received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination and already has an MIQ bed allocated for his return. And, in the current environment, we remain mindful of the need to carefully balance player workloads,” Gary Stead, told as per quoted by ICC.
Tom Latham To Captain New Zealand In Bangladesh
Tom Latham was appointed the skipper of the Kiwis side in the absence of Kane Williamson who has been allowed to play in the remaining phase of IPL 2021. A lot of players who have been on the fringe of making it to the main squad will be playing in Bangladesh and they will have an opportunity to prove their case for the T20 Worldcup selection.
