The India national cricket team will travel to Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series a few days after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is likely to select a young squad for the upcoming series in the absence of key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The upcoming series is expected to be the first assignment for former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as head coach. The five matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare from July 6 to 14. Players who excelled in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will receive their maiden call-ups to the national cricket team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has historically sent inexperienced teams to Zimbabwe. As per a TOI report, the new management aims to move beyond relying on veteran players. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to prioritize upcoming events like the WTC and Champions Trophy 2025.

Mayank Yadav Is Still Bowling At 80-90% - Report

India's latest pace sensation Mayank Yadav is unlikely to be part of the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe tour. Mayank is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) with nine other young players under observation. The right-arm fast bowler suffered a side strain after his impressive performance in this year's IPL.

According to the Times of India, Mayank Yadav is bowling at 80-90% capacity, and it is difficult for him to be included in the team for the Zimbabwe tour. The report added that Mayank is being prepared for the Sri Lanka tour and subsequent red-ball cricket season.

"Mayank is still bowling at 80-90%. It will be tough for him to be rushed into the team for the Zimbabwe tour. He is being readied for the Sri Lanka tour followed by a red-ball season," the source said.

After their series in Zimbabwe, India will play three ODIs and three T20Is in Sri Lanka. The Indian team is set to field a full-strength squad for the ODIs. The Indian team will travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) later this year. Team India has won the last four BGT series, including two in away conditions.

Mayank Yadav Won Back To Back Player Of The Match Awards

Mayank Yadav impressed with his rapid pace in the IPL 2024. The Delhi-born cricketer made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He took three wickets and continued his strong performance in the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He earned consecutive "Player of the Match" awards.

The pace bowler suffered an injury during his third match for the Lucknow-based franchise. Yadav left the field after bowling one over due to soreness in his lower abdominal region. He returned to play against Mumbai Indians (MI) team but could only bowl 3.1 overs before being ruled out of the T20 tournament.
