Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) off-spinner Varun Chakravarthy was certainly in big relief after delivering a match-winning performance for KKR in the 47th match of the ongoing IPL 2024 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, April 29.

Chakravarthy was the standout bowler for KKR, as he recorded a stunning spell of 3/16 in his quota of 4 overs to help the two-time IPL champions to seal the game by 7 wickets against DC in Kolkata.

After the match, the mystery spinner has yet again expressed his sympathy for the cheerleaders and even came up with an ideal suggestion to ease their work during the high-scoring matches in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Give a break for the cheerleaders yaar: Varun Chakravarthy

Actually, the KKR spinner recently added a touch of humor to the prevailing high-scoring trend in the ongoing IPL 2024. In a post on social media platform X, Chakravarthy jokingly showed sympathy for the cheerleaders, who had to keep dancing after every boundary and six hits during the IPL 2024 match between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi.

Chakravarthy said via his X post: “#SRHvsDC Give a break for the cheerleaders' yaar... They are dancing nonstop for 6 overs!!!!🙄🙄🤣 #ipl #poorbowlers.”

His post went viral on social media, and he was faced with a question regarding his concern for the cheerleaders after KKR’s massive win over DC at the Eden Gardens. In his response, Chakravarthy suggested that the cheerleaders should dance only for the sixes and not for the fours this season.

Varun Chakravarthy said during the post-match presentation ceremony: “That (high scores), fortunately, or unfortunately has become the trend this year. I think they (cheerleaders) should dance only for the sixes, not for the fours (laughs).”

Varun Chakravarthy opens up about KKR's team meetings

He also said that the KKR players and team management had a meeting to find solutions after the Punjab Kings (PBKS) managed to chase a record 262 target in their previous IPL 2024 match, where they suffered an 8-wicket defeat at the same venue in Kolkata.

Chakravarthy stated: “Definitely, the last match (vs PBKS) was a very hard pill to swallow. We had many conversations with the management, everyone chipped in. We spoke with the coaches – Carl Crowe, Bharat Arun sir, (Gautam) Gambhir, Chandrakant (Pandit) sir, Abhishek Nair.”

Meanwhile, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer lauded Chakravarthy for his three-wicket spell against DC, saying the way he bowled at Eden Gardens was just amazing. Iyer stated after the match: “He has not been at his best the last few games. He has been assessing the wicket and has been giving us input. The way he turned up today was simply brilliant.”

Notably, with this massive win, KKR strengthened its position in the IPL 2024 points table. They are currently placed behind only the table-topping Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the standings. However, KKR have a better NRR than the Rajasthan Royals (RR), but they have 16 points from 9 games, and Kolkata have 12 points from the same number of games in the tournament.
