MI vs SRH Match Preview- IPL 2024, Match 55

Mumbai Indians

MI are still mathematically alive in the playoffs race after the defeat to KKR but practically on the brink of elimination. Apart from winning their remaining games, they need a lot of other results to go their way to make it to the playoffs. Very rarely has a team made it to the IPL playoffs with 12 points.

MI could not chase down 170 on a wicket on which they had already bowled and knew about how the wicket was playing. This loss against KKR was an evident example that the team is not playing as a unit and hence nothing is going right for the side. How they perform now in the remaining three games will be an interesting observation.

MI Squad

Hardik Pandya (c), Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, N. Tilak Varma, Tim David, Harvik Desai, Arjun Tendulkar, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Luke Wood, Romario Shepherd, Gerald Coetzee, Shreyas Gopal, Nuwan Thushara, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Mohammad Nabi, Shivalik Sharma, Kwena Maphaka

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Talking about SRH, they came back to winning ways in the last match against RR after losing their previous two games chasing. Hyderabad have been good while batting first but chasing has been their Achilles Heel this season. In the remaining games, the opposition teams might ask them to chase. A win here for SRH will take them to 14 points and take them a step closer to IPL 2024 playoffs.

The lack of a good spinner has been a problem for the side. In the last match, they used Shahbaz Ahmed for just one over. Against MI, they might be tempted to bring back Mayank Markande the leggie to extract the best out of the conditions.

SRH Squad

Pat Cummins (c), Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Travis Head, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyan

MI vs SRH Key Battles

Rohit Sharma vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Rohit has not been in the best of form this season. Against KKR he scored just 12 and fell to Sunil Narine who has now dismissed him nine times in the IPL. Likewise, Bhuvi with his ability to swing the new ball can be a good match-up against Rohit.

Ishan Kishan vs Pat Cummins

Kishan has looked to give MI fast starts but has not been consistent enough. He was dismissed by Mitchell Starc against KKR and Pat Cummins will look to dismiss him in the next match.

Suryakumar Yadav vs T Natarajan

SKY holds the key for MI with the bat and the left-arm seamer with his pinpoint yorkers can limit the batter from playing the shots that he does.

Travid Head vs Jasprit Bumrah

Head scored 62 off 24 balls in the last match against MI. He was eventually dismissed by Gerald Coetzee. Bumrah with the form he is in can be the ideal match-up against the southpaw.

Abhishek Sharma vs Piyush Chawla

Abhishek Sharma has been very aggressive inside the powerplay. He has hit the seamers out of the park and has scored runs against the spinners as well. He might be a good match-up against Piyush Chawla who has a good match-up against left-handers.

MI vs SRH Key Players

For MI, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav hold the key as they are the senior players in the side. With the ball, Jasperit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla will be key. Bumrah is leading the Purple Cap race with 17 wickets.

For SRH, the usual suspects Travis Head and Abhishek Sharam will be key with the bat. With the ball, they have relied on their seamers to get the job done and hence Cummins, Bhuvi and Natarajan will be key.

Weather and Pitch

The temperatures will be around 30 degrees in the evening and weather conditions will be partly cloudy. Humidity levels will be almost 75 percent but no chance of rain. We can expect a full game of 40 overs.

Talking about the pitch, it is generally a batting-friendly wicket but the pitch was slow and the ball was gripping off the surface in the MI vs KKR match. It will be interesting to see what kind of strip is laid out for the MI vs SRH contest.

Conclusion

A win for SRH will take them to 14 points and take them a step closer to the playoffs. MI who are virtually out of the race will be officially eliminated if they lose against SRH.
