Mickey Arthur will take over as the head coach of Pakistan’s national cricket team once more, according to a Monday announcement from Najam Sethi, the chairman of the cricket board of Pakistan.

This information was released following the decision of former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq not to renew his coaching agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Najam Sethi Personally In Negotiations With Mickey Arthur: Reports

According to reports, Sethi is eager to have Arthur rejoin the squad and has said that “I am personally in negotiations with Mickey and we have resolved 90 percent of issues,”

Between 2016 and 2019, Arthur led Pakistan as their head coach. During that period, the side won the 2017 Champions Trophy and rose to the top of the T20 global rankings. The squad experienced success and stability throughout Arthur’s time as coach, and he placed a strong focus on player development.

Najam Sethi Wants Mickey Arthur To Build His Own Team Of Coaches

The 54-year-old, who was born in Johannesburg, is now bound by a long-term contract with Derbyshire, but it appears that the Pakistan Cricket Board is eager to rehire him as national coach.

“Hopefully, we will very soon share the news that Mickey will be joining us. I’d like him to build his own team of coaches once he is here,” he added.

This would be consistent with the PCB’s recent efforts to rebuild the squad in an effort to create a potent and unified unit that can contend at the top levels of international cricket.

Along with announcing Arthur’s comeback, Sethi also named former all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the head selector, replacing former batsman Haroon Rasheed who had held the position temporarily. Rasheed is a well-known personality in Pakistani cricket and has a plethora of expertise in rebuilding teams, so this appointment also suggests an emphasis on that.
