Misbah-ul-Haq set to be appointed as Pakistan red-ball coach

Pakistan National Cricket Team is making massive changes in its coaching staff ahead of the next edition of the ICC World Test Championship. After appointing Mike Hesson as white-ball coach, they now have their eyes set on the red-ball coach.

As per the reports in GEO News, it is learned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as the red-ball coach of the team. The development was made public by the former cricketer of the team, Basit Ali, on his Twitter account.

Red-ball’s head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq. Congratulations - Basit Ali confirms Misbah-ul-Haq's appointment

After Mike Hesson was announced as the white-ball coach, Basit Ali congratulated Misbah on his appointment. Even though there isn't any official confirmation by the Pakistan Cricket Board and Haq, Basit claimed it by saying:

“Red-ball’s head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq. Congratulations,” Basit wrote on X, coupled with a picture of Misbah in Pakistan’s Test jersey.

Basit Ali's comment comes as a big development, as before the appointment of Mike Hesson, the former Pakistan National Cricket Team made the announcement on his social media. Hence, it is now speculated that his statement about Misbah-Ul-Haq will also be true.

Misbah arguably was one of the best batters to have played Test cricket for Pakistan. The right-hander played a massive role in the success of the team during his playing days as he was consistently scoring runs for his side both at home as well as away.

Misbah, since the last few years, has been associated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He was performing the role of the mentor currently, but as per the various reports, he, along with five more mentors, has been asked to leave their jobs.

While there is no confirmation, the reports in some other sections of Pakistan claimed that Misbah is likely in talks of being appointed as the head coach of the red-ball cricket team. If the reports turn out to be true, it will be a massive boost for the team.

The Pakistan National Cricket Team are struggling big time in Test cricket. Since the last two editions of the ICC World Test Championship, they have looked terrible and were among the teams that were eliminated early from the tournament.

However, with the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship around the corner, the Pakistan National Cricket Team would be hoping to turn things around. It remains to be seen if Misbah-ul-Haq will be appointed as the red-ball coach or not.

The Pakistan Test team was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against South Africa. They didn't have a great outing there as they faced a 2-0 whitewash. Also, before that, they faced a loss against the West Indies.
