A big worry for the Mumbai Indians (MI) as their ace spinner Mitchell Santner was forced to leave the field with the support of the physios. In the process of dismissing the young prodigy of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kartik Sharma, Santner injured himself after accomplishing the task successfully.
The incident happened during the fifth ball of the 17th over of the first innings. It was Jasprit Bumrah's third over of his spell tonight. In this over, the pacer conceded only a couple of runs and picked up the crucial wicket of Kartik Sharma. Sharma departed for 18 runs off 19 balls.

He took the catch clearly, but injured his shoulder as he put in a dive. The Mumbai Indians owner looked a little bit worried. He even went to check the injured fielder as well.

Mitchell Santner completed his 4-over spell against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. In his quota, the Kiwi spinner took the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan, but on an overall basis, he proved costly as he leaked 44 runs, 11 runs per over on average.
But the star attraction of the first innings was Sanju Samson. The opener of CSK registered his second century in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Samson remained undefeated for 101 runs against 54 deliveries. The keeper-batter laced his innings with ten 4s and six 6s, and a strike rate of 187.04. Supported by the century of Samson, CSK, who went to bat first after losing the toss, got 207 runs in exchange for 6 wickets.

During the innings break, MI bowler Ahswani Kumar explained that the wicket was a bit tricky.
“The ball held onto the pitch a bit on the back of a length. The fuller balls were coming onto the bat nicely. In these conditions, it's a chaseable score for our team. There's no dew yet, but maybe it will come in the second innings. The plan was to bowl the slower bumper, and that's what I tried to execute,” Kumar said after the first innings.
The 24-year-old seamer claimed a brace against CSK in his 4-over spell in exchange for an economy rate of 9.20. He dismissed two dangerous overseas batter, Dewald Brevis and Jamie Overton in the process.
