Australia fast-bowler Mitchell Starc have admitted that his team needs to come up with fresh and different ideas to stop Jos Buttler from scoring runs. The wicketkeeper-batsman has turned out to be the Achilles’ heel for Australia on the tour so far.
He starred in both the T20Is to help England seal the three-match series with a match to go. Buttler has so far scored 121 off just 83 balls against Australia in their first competitive games in five months. After scoring 44 in the two-run win in the first T20I, he scored an unbeaten 77 in the six-wicket win in the second game on Sunday.
He batted throughout for his 54-ball knock as the hosts reached their target of 158 with seven balls left. England started the chase on a nervous note as Jonny Bairstow departed cheaply after hitting his own wicket in the third over. But before Australia could make further inroads, Buttler added 87 runs with Dawid Malan to put England on track for the win.
Malan fell for 42, and Tom Banton and Eoin Morgan followed in a collapse of 3 for 29, but Jos Buttler made sure that England cross the finishing line without much troubles. With 18 needed from the final two overs, Moeen Ali hit 10 from two balls before Jos Buttler sealed the victory with a huge six.
With Buttler proving to be the difference in the do-or-die second match for Australia, Mitchell Starc has said that the visitors need to come up with a plan for the third game.
“He’s someone we’re going to have to plan for for the third game, and obviously the one-dayers as well,” said Mitchell Starc.
“When you get someone striking the way he has for the last two games, it’s obviously powerful for T20 cricket in such a short format. We’ll have to chat as a group tomorrow,” he added.
Following the T20I series, both the teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series. After that, several players from both the sides will travel to UAE for the upcoming IPL.
