Mitchell Starc etches his name in WTC record books; joins Pat Cummins in elite list

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who has already dominated England with the ball in the Ashes 2025-26, etched his name in the record books on the third day of the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Starc completed the landmark of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 46 off 95 balls before the tea break. Starc completed the 1000-run milestone in the World Test Championship. He began the match just 43 runs short of the milestone and reached the landmark during the 98th over of Australia’s first innings on Saturday, December 6.
Mitchell Starc Becomes the Second Australian to Score 1000 Runs and Take 100 Wickets in WTC
Mitchell Starc has entered elite company in the World Test Championship, becoming only the second Australian after Pat Cummins to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets.
Across nations, only five players have achieved this milestone. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cummins, and Chris Woakes had completed the feat before Starc.

Mitchell Starc Becomes the Ninth Australian to Cross 1000 WTC Runs
Starc is also the ninth Australian to cross 1000 WTC runs. Steve Smith leads the list, followed by Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, and David Warner. With more than 1000 runs and over 200 wickets to his name, Starc is among the most impactful performers in the format.

Ravichandran Ashwin the First Player in the WTC to Score 1000 Runs and Take 100 Wickets
Ravichandran Ashwin was the first player in the WTC to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets. Before retiring in December 2024, he finished with 1142 runs and 195 wickets in 41 matches for India. Ravindra Jadeja is the only cricketer with more than 2000 runs along with 100 wickets in the WTC.
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are the only players who have scored over 1000 runs and also taken more than 200 wickets in the tournament. Starc, who took six wickets in England’s first innings of the ongoing Test, can move past Cummins on the WTC wicket list in the upcoming matches.
Veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon is at the top of the WTC wicket charts with 219 wickets in 54 matches. Lyon was not included in the playing XI for the Brisbane Test and could return for the next match in Adelaide.
