Mitchell Starc not to play for Delhi Capitals

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc pulled out of the remainder of IPL 2025. This will be a significant blow for the Delhi Capitals before the playoffs, as they are still in contention for a spot in the IPL playoffs.
Over the past few days, there was considerable suspense about whether Australian players would return to the remainder of the league.
Mitchell Starc’s performance in IPL 2025
The left-arm pacer has played a significant role in the success of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. Starc scalps 14 wickets in 11 matches with an average of 26.14.
Mitchell Starc defended nine runs against the Rajasthan Royals and helped his side to pull out a memorable win in the super over.
But Mitchell Starc had been expensive in this edition of the IPL as he gave runs at an economy of 10.17 in 11 matches.
Which overseas players will re-join Delhi Capitals?
Currently, Dusmantha Chameera is in India, but Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs will rejoin the team before their scheduled practice sessions. Delhi’s mentor, Kevin Pietersen, also left India after the suspension of the tournament.
He will be joining Delhi’s squad on May 16. Jake Fraser-McGurk will not be joining the team for the remainder of the tournament, same like his fellow Australian.
Delhi will be in action on May 18, where they will take on Gujarat Titans at their home ground, but now they are training in the franchise’s training ground in Aerocity.
Gujarat will reach the Arun Jaitely Stadium on May 15 and will start their practice sessions on May 16.
Delhi Capitals replacement signings
Before Starc pulled out of the tournament, Delhi may have known his decision before and thus they had signed an alternate option for Starc two days before Starc’s announcement.
They have signed left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk. Delhi are yet to announce the replacement of Starc for the remainder of the tournament.
Gujarat also roped in Kusal Mendis as a replacement for Jos Buttler for the playoffs. West Indies will be touring England, and Buttler was announced in the squad of England squad and will miss the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 points table
Delhi Capitals started their IPL 2025 campaign on a solid note as they won their first four matches straight and were table toppers in the first half of the tournament.
But in their last five matches, they won only one match, and now they have only three games left and have to win atleast two matches to qualify for the playoffs.
Delhi are in fifth position in the points table as they have 13 points in 11 matches, and their last match was stopped due to security concerns against Punjab Kings.
