Babar Azam's underperformance has been blamed on his fellow teammates by the former Pakistan batter, as he mentioned Virat Kohli and all other great batters have received extensive support from their teammates; however, Pakistan depended solely on Babar without much assistance from other players.
Pakistan have snubbed the likes of Babar Azam, the veteran batter, and their former skipper Mohammad Rizwan. Both these players have been left out of their squad for the Asia Cup 2025 due to their poor performances in the shortest format of the game.
Pakistan have also not had immense success across any format of the game, and every player in the setup is to be blamed for it. They have dropped multiple positions in the ICC rankings and are eyeing the Asia Cup for a comeback.
“Babar isn’t a bad batter.” Former Pakistan batter blames lack of support for veteran batters' weak form
Two of the biggest names in the current Pakistan squad, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, have missed out on the Asia Cup 2025 squad. It is an extraordinary fall for both of the international greats from Pakistan.
Former Pakistan batter Mohsin Khan has come in favour of Babar Azam and has claimed him to be a great batter. Khan said that he needs some support from the rest of the batting lineup, just like several greats have had over the course of their glittering careers.
“Babar isn’t a bad batter,” Mohsin is quoted as saying by PTI. “But you need a clutch of quality players around him to support him. Look at Virat Kohli — in Tests he had Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul. In ODIs he had Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. A great player is made even greater when surrounded by other strong players.”
Too much pressure has kept runs away from Pakistani batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan
This has been an open secret that, in all these years, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been doing the majority of the scoring for the Pakistan side across any format of the game. Mohsin Khan has said that the never-ending pressure on these two cricketers won't help the players.
“If you are always put under pressure that you have to score centuries every time you step out, they are humans too — hence at times you aren’t able to play the game the team requires you to play,” he said.
“During our time there was Majid Khan, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, and later Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan. Teams are built on numbers — you need a group of players who are more or less of the same quality. Right now, there is a big gulf between Babar and the rest.”
